WELCOME TO WISDOM COUNCIL'S SUBTLE ACTIVISM
AND COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS
The Wisdom Council (WC) offers us all the opportunity to participate together using inner practices that link to our outer activism. Together we pay attention to our own experiences and allow those experiences to prompt our attention to what we want to transform. We grow deeper into our gifts of elderhood --patience, consciousness, and willingness to dwell in uncertainty and mystery. Then, with those gifts, we participate in contemplative practices that help us create a resonant field and send our collective energy out into the world where it is most needed. Learn more about the Wisdom Council here.
Our hour-long “community conversation" expands a format designed to cut through to a core issue and then deepen dialogue around our response to that issue. The conversations start with a check-in which is followed by five minutes of silence. This moves us into a practice of subtle activism, which might include a guided visualization or meditation. The focus of the session is one that is prompted by participants’ response to our current life experience. This experience could be one inspired by a CEN initiative or by a world event.
Subtle activism is the use of spiritual or consciousness based practices for collective transformation; which distinguishes it from the usual focus of using spiritual practice for personal development. We’re not looking at this as a substitute for external action or the practical action that of course needs to happen in the world, but exploring nonetheless that this approach could form a crucial piece, a foundational piece in the shift that we need to make on the planet. – David Nicol
