Art Mitchell

The Arizona Elder Action Chapter was started in May 2020 on Meetup, and considers the question, “Retirement or reengagement?” We currently meet via Zoom and seek new members and speakers. We support each other and pursue, each in our own way (individually and collectively), the changes we wish to see in ourselves, our communities, our state, our country, our world. Our members are involved in a variety of on-going causes as well as those looking for ways to engage – locally – or create new initiatives. Chapter members receive support, encouragement, and project suggestions through sharing our action-oriented ideas and resources at meetings. “Sub-chapters” can evolve from this chapter and be formed by members to focus and act locally in a selected town, city, or region within Arizona (e.g., Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, Southern Arizona).

Contact Art Mitchell (Tucson) or visit the Meetup site directly for more information and to join.

Sierra Foothills

Shirley Freriks

This Chapter, mainly Nevada County and Placer County, was formed in January of 2020 as a combination of EAN and ECA. We want to hold the consciousness of EAN and its Educate to Activate opportunities, as well as work on the climate solutions. All of our issues and focus areas are interrelated to help make the world a better place for us and all those who come behind us. In 2024, the focus is on Getting Out The Vote and preserving our precious democracy in a number of ways. Join us to help make it happen!

Email sfreriks@mcn.org for current information on meeting dates. We usually meet by zoom once a month for 90 minutes and have an in-person social gathering once a quarter. We like each other! And we can do good work together!

Palo Alto/Bay Area

Geoff Ainscow

The Palo Alto/Bay Area Elder Action Chapter meets biweekly via Zoom, and once a quarter we gather in person in one of our homes. It can be said that we work together separately — while we each have our own ways in which we actively work for a better world, we come together to plumb the depths of our inner life. The close relationships formed in the group produce companionship, a brotherhood/sisterhood, and bring meaning to our lives.

San Mateo/Bay Area

Karen Fine
Libby Traubman

The San Mateo/Bay Area Elder Action Chapter, now in its fourth year, has eight participants who meet monthly for a potluck dinner, personal sharing, and updating of our varied activities. We share lessons learned from our successes and failures and support each other as we work to be of service in our local communities and beyond.

Colorado

Denver

Jackie Burson

The Centennial Colorado Elder Action Chapter has been together for about two years. We meet about once a month. Sometimes we meet at a restaurant and other times in a room at the local library. We are into different things as individuals – this includes volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, attending political rallies and volunteering for Angel Heart food delivery. During our meetings we discuss issues that affect us all, report on what we are doing now and talk about our ideas for what else we might do. We are open to new members.

Durango

Robert ‘Han’ Bishop

The Durango Elder Action Chapter is an ongoing gathering of elder men and women who understand that a lifetime of experience, lessons learned and knowledge gained, gives them wisdom worth sharing with others. We take opportunities together to share and explore topics relevant to elderhood. We come together to share and deepen the wisdom we’ve learned, enrich the lives of each other, and in turn, do so for our families, friends, community, and even the world-at large. We meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month (10:30am at Pine River Library).

Oregon

Portland

Melissa Ribner

The Portland Elder Action Chapter is newly formed; we have loosely agreed to explore a range of topics relating to elderhood. There are currently seven members, with room to grow to ten (maximum). We are all active in a variety of projects, which enrich our discussions. We meet monthly.

Pennsylvania

Philadelphia

Lynne Iser

The Philadelphia Elder Action Chapter meets to attend rallies, hearings and other events together and to discuss local issues and ways in which to respond, individually or together. This is an open group and people can join at any time, or just show up.

Worldwide – Evolutionary Leap

Online

Mike Abkin
Nancy Margulies

The Evolutionary Leap Elder Action Chapter explores ways that we can anticipate and contribute to an “evolutionary leap” where the human population acts from an awareness that we are One Earth, One humanity, One Future. Leap meetings provide a forum for: (a) deep listening and being heard, thus supporting building the inner strength necessary to work effectively on healing the divides that plague our world; (b) brainstorming and developing ideas for personal and collective action that members can take in their own lives, through EAN groups or elsewhere, for deep adaption to the climate crisis and ultimately to move the culture toward values, norms, behaviors, and institutional systems reflective of interbeing and one planet living; and (c) sharing recommendations of relevant books, articles, websites, resources, etc., and thus exploring and learning from them in community.

The group meets twice a month via Zoom with ongoing sharing via email and is open to new members. For further information please contact Mike Abkin or Nancy Margulies.
